Much as I hate this, I will probably have to move again next Spring, moving a year and a half ago was traumatic at best and at worst nearly killed me as I had pnuemonia at the time. I'm depressed as hell as I LOVE this apartment and this neighborhood and hoped I could live out many years here but apparently I chose too well....
A big apartment management company has just bought my building and our new corporate overlords are going more upscale. They are now advertising units just like mine as "from the $2400s" which is $500 more than Paula and I pay now (plus utilities, $75 for parking and $70 for two cats a month which they are increasing to $50 each cat per month or $100!)
They will not be able to tell us until January (90 days before lease up) how much the increase will be so I am meanwhile going to plan for worst case scenario and assume we will need to move. This will probably cost at least $5000 for movers, buying more boxes, deposits, application fees. I emptied my savings on the last move and haven't been able to rebuild it since as I've been financially treading water since as living here is so much more than in the old ghetto.
I'm going into the 3rd year of a federal employee salary freeze (also no more bonuses which means I am making a bit less than in years past) and have had enough trouble keeping up with inflation with moderate rent increases ($50 this year) plus food, gas, insurance premiums etc. I long ago gave up stuff like cable TV, satellite radio, land line, switched from Verizon cell phone to pay as you go Virgin (Virgin Mobile ROCKS!) so there's not much left in the budget I can cut.
So sorry to vent, I will probably be selling off lots of my stuff even things I wouldn't have considered before, will be going through everything to see what I can part with, I need to seriously downsize
